Jeff Koons was born in York, Pennsylvania, in 1955 and trained at the Maryland Institute College of Art and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Since the late 1970s he has transformed familiar objects and images from consumer culture into precisely fabricated sculptures and paintings, exploring desire, taste, reflection and acceptance.
Koons’s work is held by institutions including MoMA, Tate, the Guggenheim and the Whitney. His 2014 Whitney retrospective travelled to the Centre Pompidou and Guggenheim Bilbao. Landmark presentations have also taken place at Versailles and in major galleries internationally.
His practice is documented in extensive museum catalogues, monographs and interviews. Alongside monumental works, authorised editions produced with specialist makers such as Bernardaud bring his best-known imagery into a precisely controlled collectible format.
Koons is among the most visible artists in the international contemporary market. For editions, value depends on authenticity, edition number, condition, provenance, certificate and completeness. Auction records for unique or monumental works are not directly comparable with porcelain editions, and past results do not guarantee future returns.
